This photo session took half a day in the studio and required 5 strobe packs and a focusable spot light. Above the bike, on a boom, is a 48X72 inch soft box with a Broncolor 3200 watt/second power pack. Another Broncolor Pulso 2 power pack lights a small square soft box front right, and a Norman 800 fills from the far right into a hinged 4X8 reflective card. From the left side another Norman 2000 fills a hinged 4X8 reflective card. To complete the photograph, a snooted strobe lights the background behind the windscreen. The shot was exposed on Fuji Provia 100 4X5 transparency film. The camera is a Sinar P2 4X5, with a 240 mm Sinar lens.

The Motorcycle

This Ducati 900 SS/SP has been an ongoing project since I bought it in 1997. Silver fairing pieces replaced the original red fairing and a solo seat improved the riding position for "sport" riding.
Modifications include:

  • 41 mm Keihin "racing" carburetors
  • A lightened (9 oz.) flywheel
  • A full Gio.Ca.Moto exhaust system with carbon fiber cannisters
  • Marchesini magnesium wheels (added after this photo session).
*These wheels are 24 lbs. lighter than the original wheels.
  • Kevlar brake lines

Many other "stock" components were removed or replaced in an effort to lighten the motorcycle. Needless to say, it's a joy to ride and it handles like a "dream".
