The Photo: The original layout was submitted
by Heil's advertising agency. This concept was one in a family of three,
all of which would follow a similar theme. The decision was made to photograph
each of the components individually, and the assembly was performed using
PhotoShop. Because the trucks were white, we required a facility large
enough to transform into our "location" studio. We acquired an airport
hangar, and were then able to control the elements to assure the trucks
would have detail and contrast. The perspective was accomplished by photographing
the trucks from different heights. The rock features in the computer-generated
image, as well as the foreground, were photographed at a local quarry,
and were digitally manipulated to match the layout.
Equipment: The camera I used was a Sinar P2,
with a 240mm Sinaron S lens. The film I chose was Fugi Provia IIIF 4x5
Color Transparency. The lighting consisted of a number of shoot-throughs
(12 ft. x 12 ft. silks), as well as a half-dozen power packs, driving
eight heads.
